  11. EOF(r) COMPATIBILITY

  17. Redwood City, CA, December 5, 1994 -- Schema Research Corporation
  18. announced today that SchemaE(tm) version 1.3 is scheduled for release
  19. in January, 1995 and that beta copies of the software are available
  20. immediately.

  22. SchemaE is a NEXTSTEP(r) CASE database design and management tool
  23. that integrates with the NEXTSTEP object-oriented software
  24. development tools DatabaseKit(r) and Enterprise Objects Framework(r)
  25. (EOF) for building client/server database mission-critical software
  26. quickly and without extensive programming.  SchemaE speeds
  27. development and improves the design process by eliminating the need
  28. for SQL scripts or programming to update database designs.  By
  29. reverse engineering the database every work session, SchemaE presents
  30. a comprehensive, up-to-date picture of the database schema.
  31. Changes such as creating tables, adding columns, or changing data
  32. types can be implemented with simple graphical changes to the schema
  33. diagram.

  35. Version 1.3 adds support for NeXT Computer Inc.'s EOF and contains
  36. about 90% of the functionality of NeXT's Enterprise Objects
  37. Modeler(r) (EOM).  This feature saves customers even more time during
  38. development by combining the two tasks of database construction and
  39. modelling into one graphical design environment.

  41. New Features in 1.3:
  42.  
  43.                - Index Creation -- Version 1.3 allows the developer to
  44.                  build and incorporate indexes graphically through
  45.                  SchemaE, giving an added degree of control over
  46.                  design and development.
  47.  
  48.                - Multiple Diagraming -- Customers can now create
  49.                  customizable diagrams of any area of the database.
  50.                  With multiple diagrams, only the specific area of the
  51.                  database the customer wishes to examine needs to be
  52.                  displayed.

  54.                - On-Line Help -- SchemaE now supports the NEXTSTEP
  55.                  standard on-line help service.  The entire users
  56.                  manual has been integrated into this point and click
  57.                  service allowing customers the immediate help they
  58.                  need, and saving the time that would be required in
  59.                  finding and searching through a hard copy manual.

  61. In addition to the above features, version 1.3 also integrates the
  62. following customer suggestions:

  64.                - DBObjects Browser -- This new browser lists all of
  65.                  the views and tables at a glance, allowing quick and
  66.                  easy access to any table or view within the schema.

  68.                - Color -- SchemaE now includes color functionality
  69.                  which allows users to more easily organize, and
  70.                  better differentiate between, sections of the
  71.                  database schema.

  73.                - New Licensing Procedures -- Version 1.3 contains
  74.                  support for floating licenses, and has a new
  75.                  simplified set-up procedure.

  78. SchemaE 1.3 is available for $3,300, and SchemaE-50(tm) which
  79. provides all of the same features and capabilities as SchemaE, but
  80. limits database size to 50 tables, is available for $950.  Schema
  81. Research provides nine months of free support and maintenance with
  82. each purchase, including software patches and upgrades.

  84. Upgrades to version 1.3 of SchemaE are provided free of charge to
  85. customers covered under maintenance contracts (software purchased
  86. after May 15, 1994, or maintenance contracts purchased after January
  87. 15, 1994).  Upgrades can be purchased for 15% of the retail price of
  88. the product at the time of upgrade.  Please contact Schema Research
